The facilities for sporting activities are excellent and varied
The Cricket, Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club offers temporary membership for playing and non-playing visitors.
There is cricket every day from mid-July to the end of August. The ground faces the sea and
is set in quiet and most picturesque surroundings. Very pleasant clubhouse and bar facing the sea.
Cricket At Coburg Field, the headquarters of Sidmouth Bowling Club. Indoor rinks available from October
to end of April.
18-hole Golf Course on Peak Hill to the west of the town-approached by Cotmaton Road. The Golf Club welcomes new and temporary members. Good clubhouse. Golf At the eastern end of the Esplanade there is a joint clubhouse occupied by the Sailing and Sea Angling Clubs, with a boat park attached. Races are held on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons, and Sunday mornings. Two classes, Scorpions and Mirrors, and races for handicap boats. Visitors are welcome as temporary members of the Club but boat parking is limited.
Freshwater anglers have access to many good streams-notably the Sid, Otter, Axe and Exe. Licences to fish the River Sid and Otter may be obtained from the East Devon Council Offices, Knowle, Sidmouth. There is an active Sea Angling Club at the eastern end of the Esplanade. Meetings within easy motoring distance of Sidmouth are held at-Newton Abbot, Haldon Moor, Wincanton and Taunton.
